Sally Penn is a multidisciplinary artist born in England and raised in Auckland, New Zealand. She studied painting at Sydney College of the Arts in Australia before moving to New York in 1993. In the 90’s she worked in the photo department at Interview magazine and began styling for photo shoots and making her own clothing. Shortly after, Steven Alan encouraged her to launch her own eponymous line that sold to major retailers worldwide.
Sally’s artwork bridges photography, painting, and fashion. She styles regularly for Vogue and Teen Vogue, and her paintings and sculptures have been shown at Max Fish and in Mary Pings, Slow and Steady Wins the Race spring 2010 show at Saatchi & Saatchi. Her photographs were included in the exhibitions and books Full Bleed: New York City Skateboard Photography and Visionaire 41: World. She is currently making landscape-influenced paintings on pieced canvas, and repurposing textiles (especially denim) into paintings and wearable works. Sally lives and works in Brooklyn.
